In her spare time, Dianna loves to write screenplays (and previously blogs!). In 2012, she told Teen Vogue: “I’m writing a lot, and I just finished a script that we’re moving forward with and going to potentially shoot next year”. This page of our site is dedicated to her writing, so read on to learn more about it!
A Fuchsia Elephant
In 2009, Dianna wrote a screenplay titled “A Fuchsia Elephant”. In her own words, the short plot reads: “On the day before her eighteenth birthday, Charlotte Hill makes a decision to change. Not wanting to follow in the footsteps of her alcoholic mother, she enlists a sober partner named Michael to help guide her. He challenges her to think of something fun to do to celebrate, and with the help of some friends, she recreates the eighth birthday party she never had. The party is an imaginative romp filled with pirates, gypsies and a fuchsia elephant…the best she’s ever had”. Six months before she started filming Glee, Dianna sold the screenplay. They had the option for a year, but nothing was ever done with it, so Dianna got it back in 2009. “I sold my first screenplay six months before Glee, but they had the option for a year and now it’s back with me. So I’d like to get that made. I wrote it during the writer’s strike when there weren’t any auditions— I now know every coffee shop in L.A.” She teamed up with Dave Franco, and they created the short film – Dianna as the writer, director and actress, and Dave as the executive producer and actor. The film was never released to the public.
